Okay I’ve had enough of biased answers . I’m from bits and my brother is from NIT-T and we’re from the same branch. One is not better than the other (except if you’re comparing a really new NIT).
In terms of placements, NIT-T and BITS (Goa and Hyderabad) are on par. Pilani is better (Pilani placements are on par with the old IITs, whether you like it or not). So if you’re from T,W,K , the placements will be on par with Hyd and Goa, other NITs, it’s lower.
Infrastructure, Trichy has one of the best labs in the country and BITS is not too far off. However in terms of hostels, BITS is way better.
Cost, BITS would cost about 3 times the cost of studying in an NIT but you do get better hostel facilities (some consolation). But being a private institution, it cannot subsidize the student fees unlike a government institute where the taxpayer is paying a part of your actual fees and for SC/ST, the full amount. (The government spends money on each seat, if you didn’t know).
Future studies, this is where BITS has a huge advantage in terms of getting a BITS-Pilani degree which is treated on par with a degree from an old IIT. Abroad, it’s mostly the IITs that are heard of, but BITS is also catching up due to its brilliant alumni and same goes for the top 3 nits although I’m not sure if they differentiate between the nits abroad.
BITS is a very underrated option because of it’s high fees but if you work
