I am not aware there is any cap to the salaries of radiologists. Some advantages unrelated to salary are:
- Can read the images from one’s home
- Can do “teleradiology” and read images from pretty much anywhere at your permanent location (I had my x-rays being read by radiologists in West Virginia back in 2000 when I worked in Kansas)
- Clean, quiet, no patient or family interaction or very little (I love those parts of my practice, but not everyone does)
- Don’t have to work at night or evenings unless so desired
- Can join or create radiology groups and increase economic clout
- Can move into interventional radiology and be at the top of the MD pay scale although that takes more years of and a separate training route
- No night call unless you want it – and if you get called, you can read the images at home
