What is the difference between IT and CS?

  • 0

Several people gave their perspective. I still believe that the answer was not clearly or fully answered, so I will try to give my perspective.

The definition I will use for Computer Science (CS) will be the one used by most of the Top 100 universities in the world rankings. Many other universities will follow it too.

Computer Science

To begin with, CS is an academic discipline. It very rare that you will find companies asking to recruit for ‘Computer Scientist’ jobs. Many times companies will require such a degree or a relevant one, but the job title will be different.

At the link below you can find an excellent presentation with 10 myths busted:
10 Myths for Computer Science

Despite its name, a significant amount of CS does not involve the study of computers themselves. A famous quotation states that “Computer Science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes”.
