1. In terms of IITs, placement will be around 50% in core companies with average package around 5-6 lpa. Maximum CTC can be around 14lpa based on the IIT and specialisation (Design, thermal or manufacturing). Rest of the students end up as lecturers or in Phd. Some of them will prepare again for GATE and get into PSUs. Even in IIT Roorkee and Guwahati the placements are not as good as the older IITs. IISc is a big exception here, students here can choose research and any R&D institution will recruit for sure if applied. Placement is really good in IISc.
2. NIT Trichy is as good as any IIT in terms of placements. Same statistics as mentioned above can be implied. NIT Suratkal comes next in terms of placements. They have some good companies visiting them but placement record is not as good as Trichy. Rest of the NITs are not so good in terms of placements and most of the students studying here end up as lecturer.
3. Any other college is good for getting lecturer job only. CEG (ANNA UNIVERSITY), PSG, VIT are exceptions which have somewhat good placement. They have 20 % placement record for MTech mechanical.
