It’s good depending upon your branch. For computer science it is awesome. Now for core branch I will talk about IIT Roorkee mechanical department. In mechanical department there are 5 specialization Machine Design, Thermal, Cad,Cam & Robotics, production and welding. Here few M.Tech students leave the course in between for PSU’s now this is an additional advantage of giving Gate. Now if we talk about placements Machine Design and Cad Cam & Robotics grabbed the most number of placements. In Machine Design except one student everyone got placed. In C.C.R except 3 students all are placed till now. In thermal except 3 all are placed. For other specialization i.e. production and welding placements didn’t go well this year with only 3 or 5 students placed combined. This year the salary package for placed students vary from 4.8 LPA to 10 LPA. The students were placed either in core companies or in universities. For universities the salary package of placed students range from 5.5 LPA to 6.5 LPA.
The companies which visited this year and took students from mechanical M.Tech are Hero motocorp, Tata Motors, Eaton, Mahindra and Mahindra, John Deere, Subros Ltd and Omax Autos Ltd.
