I will tell you this based on my observations for my own batch 2015-19, my immediate seniors and my immediate juniors. I was part of main campus (KTR). Students from other campuses also come to main campus for placements.
SRM has 900+ students in CSE alone (I have included only KTR campus). Add IT + Software branch students also into this list. Easily this count goes above 2000+
Majority of the students get placed in mass recruiters like TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, Wipro, Accenture. They give CTC of 3.5–4.5 LPA (you get 2.5–3 LPA without tax deduction).
Then around 100–150 students may get into companies offering between 5–10 LPA.
20–50 students may get into companies offering 10–15 LPA.
5–10 students may get into companies offering 15–20 LPA.
2–5 students may get into companies offering above 20LPA.
Generally good companies don’t hire for SDE/SWE role from our college. You might get SRE, SDET, QA, network engineer, support engineer kind of roles. Few exceptions are everywhere.
Adobe officially hires only female candidates from our campus. Microsoft also hires only female (unoffcially since they don’t mention it but its evident) candidates from our campus. This is know as diversity hiring in the industry.
NOTE: Generally if your CTC is ‘X’ LPA your actual salary (or base salary) is ‘X/2’ LPA (without tax deductions). This is applicable for companies offering CTC >= 15 LPA. Below that your base salary is around ‘CTC minus (1 to 5)’ LPA.
What kind of offer you get will totally depend on you. From my experience the college tries to help students to get placed but they themselves are not fully aware of what is required to become a top class software engineer. Also with so much student strength its not possible to give students what they deserve. But they won’t reduce student intake because it will decrease their revenue! So your career is in your own hands.
