Is it true that Mechanical engineering course in BITS Goa is struggling in terms of placement?

  • 0

I don’t know what the purpose of this question is, but I hope my answer throws some light on the placement scenario.

The answer is frankly “Yes” to some extent. But so is the same condition in the rest of the premiere institutes in India. The whole campus is struggling for placements in the core branches of mechanical, chemical, electronics and to some extent electrical. But the current situation is not much the fault of the students, the faculty or the placement team. There are the following reasons which I feel impact the placements for mechanical engineering in BITS Goa :

1. Pan- India Industry Slump : With the current market conditions of high inflation and low growth rate of GDP (<5%), slump in auto industry and ancillaries and manufacturing sector related to it, the companies have gone on a hiring freeze till the business ecosystem changes to their favorable terms.

2. High-Intellectual Job Substitute : With the growth of various service industry in India, these provide opportunities for brilliant and highly intelligent engineers from BITS to find better paying and more satisfied work profile which utilize the innate ability to solve problems (whether engineering or not).

The rest are minor factors which do not impact the placements externally but internally –

3. Lower Average Batch CGPA – It is tough to maintain a good cgpa at the end of 8 semesters in mechanical engineering courses where the number of A’s and B’s are given to less 40% of the students. The average mechanical guy is close to the borderline
