Because of what we have achieved in the short period of time, going along the tag of being a “new iit” and “patna” (No offense to anyone, i am also from patna but the truth is that people outside of bihar, see patna as a very bad place). We have had 9 gsoc’ers the past year, this year one of our team will represent iit patna in world finals acm icpc, we finished 16th in the last edition of university codesprint by hackerrank, we finished 8th in inter iit tech meet, above all other “new” IITs (again no offense to anyone all iits are great), We had more than twice the points of our nearest new iit, and were just 50 behind BHU, We have great placement scenario, you can check it on our website, 10+ avg in electrical, 15+ avg in cse and so on. These were some of the achievements all in past 1 year.
Moreover the culture here is very good, we have our own open source coding event like gsoc, it is called nwoc, (Njack winter of code), we are introduced with different projects since 1st month of 1 st sem like making line follower bot or maze solving bot using arduino and making wireless remote controlled bot. Plus there are so many events like Robowars or Death race etc, that challange us to use that knowledge to compete.
Also the student body here is very hard working, they conduct weekly classes, of competitive coding, app dev, web dev etc, along with weekly tasks. I personally took web dev and competitive coding classes. Both of them are amazing.
We have Hosca, which is the House of socio cultural activities, which function through out the year , for those interested in dance, drama, music etc. I am not a member of hosca, so i dont have much idea what all they do, but i know enough that they work hard, to bring out the best performances.
There are many more things, but one thing is for sure, if you join iit patna, you will have a great time, and learn very much. Even though we are 2008 built, we have developed a great culture.
PS: IIT patna is a ragging free campus.
edit-
10 + avg for mechanical as well.
we had 13 gsoc selections this year, in which 4 were 1st years.
