Why did you join Bennett University?

  • 0

Firstly, I assure you this is an honest review and uninfluenced by anyone. This is for parents and students who are facing the same ‘college-JEE-etc-etc’ dilemma.

Here’s a brief background about me before joining Bennett. I have always been an electronics enthusiast and a maker. I love to building circuits, learning electronics from Youtube, and opening up electronics to see what’s inside. Yes, I was away from the ‘JEE race’. I was in love with science as a subject and used to read more than what was needed to clear the exams. However, I tried my best for competitive exams, but didn’t manage to score a decent rank in any of them (except for SAT 1420/1600). In 11th grade, I happened to join coaching classes for JEE out of peer pressure. I could barely cope up with their teaching speed and started lose interest in all of my favorite subjects. I quit the coaching (kudos to my supportive parents) and started to explore alternative ways of studying. I stopped going to school and used Byju’s, khan academy and other content on the internet. Studying at my own speed did give me greater conceptual understanding but no push for practice.

However, fast forward, I didn’t get into ‘Electronics Engineering’ in any of the good colleges. I was deciding between Bsc computer science in Ashoka University vs Electronics at Bennett. It’s not that I was not sure about electronics, I was attracted towards Ashoka’s curriculum and faculty.

And now, here I am at Bennett, learning all the things I’ve always wanted to. Answering the actual question, I joined Bennett because of-

  1. It’s super updated curriculum- We directly jump into our core subjects after the 1st semester (unlike other colleges where everyone has to study PCM for the first year irrespective of which course you take). We were taught Python (which is ‘the programming language’ today best suited for AI).
  2. Partnership with Georgia Tech- I believe this is one of the reasons for their amazing curriculum. And who knows, the doors to an exchange program may open anytime
  3. Faculty- The website has a detailed page about every faculty teaching there. Almost every teacher here, is super qualified, more than that, I’ve always found 90% of the professors easily approachable and friendly.
  4. The Campus- Just before confirming my admission, we decided to go and see the campus (as the pictures in the website appeared a little to good to be true), and bang, the sports complex, the gym, the common rooms, and the hostel itself, were super well equipped and exceeded my expectations in every possible way.
  5. Other courses- Since Bennett also has law and media courses (it’s a university after-all), there’s quite some diversity in the activities that happen in the college.
  6. Times of India connect- I joined the college with a lot of insecurity, not a single batch of engineering had passed out and for the fact still hasn’t. 2020 would see the first batch pass out. Here’s a leap of faith that I took with the belief that an industry giant like TOI can’t really mess things up too bad.
