Hey everyone, I’m going to give my complete, detailed views on what I think about VIT v/s Manipal. This is gonna be long.

Okay, so as one of the lakhs of Indian engineering student candidates, I applied for both VIT and MIT and did some pretty deep research and investigation about every possible aspect of both colleges. Campus size and infrastructure, student placements, seat matrix details, online college reviews, and some pretty disturbing answers to some Quora questions.
I’ve been through it all, and I’m here to compile it all for anyone who needs their questions answered.
1)Admission Details:
Both MIT and VIT have their own entrance exams known as MET and VITEEE respectively. VIT cancelled its entrance exam for the year 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. MIT held the MET 2020 exam online and based its admission based on its ranks in this entrance test. They gave 60% weightage to the MET and 40% weightage to the candidates’ 12th board percentage, and the ranks were allotted by this system.
MIT had a transparent, clear-cut admissions system. After every round of counselling, the cutoff ranks for each branch were released on their website so that the students knew how far they were from getting any specific branch. This sets the student at ease.
The admissions system at VIT is a bit more twisted and opaque. They have a category system comprising Categories 1–5, Category 1 being the meritorious students, and Category 5 being the underperforming candidates in that order. In this system, even a low-rank holder in Category 5 has to the opportunity to get the same seat as a Category 1 rank holder, by paying extra fees. This completely defeats the purpose of selecting only those students who have worked hard for the seat. Also, the seat allotments weren’t very clear; students with good ranks had been allotted Chennai campus, whereas students with lower ranks managed to secure the same branch in the main Vellore campus.
MIT: 1
VIT: 0
2) Campus and Infrastructure:
Both VIT and MIT have sizeable campuses having areas of about 250 and 188 acres respectively. Both are endowed with state of the art labs, sports complexes, student hostels, classrooms, gyms, messes and wi-fi. MIT has the largest sports complex in India, called Marena. Infrastructure levels are good in both colleges.
