Which one is better, IIT Ropar or Thapar University?

Seriously, if you need the help of quora to choose between IIT Ropar and Thapar, then surely you are meant for Thapar, go for it without any doubt.

But since someone has requested me to answer this question, I ll be giving an honest answer.

  1. IIT Ropar has been ranked among the top 3 new IITs in the past 2 years.
  2. IIT Ropar will provide you a better peer group since the students studying there have secured a rank under 5k in JEE Advanced. (CSE students are among the top 1k–1.8k, electrical students are among the top 3k-4k and the Mechanical guys are among the top 4k-5k). Well, you must be knowing about the peer group in Thapar. There is hardly any comparison between them.
  3. Just look at the placement stats of the two institutions. IIT Ropar avg package was around 12.5 Lpa for 2015–16 batch and 11.48 Lpa for 2016–17 batch. (Percentage placements in the CSE department have been more than 90 percent in the past 4 years with an average of around 16 Lpa . The placements of mechanical and electrical remain around 80 to 85 percent with an average of around 8–9 Lpa in mechanical and 12 Lpa in electrical). There is simply no comparison between Ropar and Thapar in terms of placements.
