I’m a final year student of NIT R and my branch is Mechanical with a GPA of 8.72/10. The ever decreasing placements here did worsen the performance during COVID times and making life hell for students sitting in placements, especially the Non-circuit branch students. I like most of my mechanical batchmates was unplaced till the very last of March, but luckily as I had also devoted time to my coding skills, got placed as an Software Development Engineering in a Hyderabad based IT firm at a package of 7.5 LPA. This made me and my parents very happy as we all were afraid that I may go unplaced.
The quality of these Placements depends on whom you compare it with.
Lower colleges like VIT, Manipal, RV, COEP etc have it much worse than us with the average of CSE being somewhere around 3–4 LPA.
Other NITs, IIITs and newest IITs have it similar to ours.
While the old IITs, BITS and IIIT Hyderabad have all the real fun as even in these tough times their non-circuit branch students are bagging packages of 15 lakhs all very easy peasy.
Reflecting on this makes me feel ki “Kaash thoda aur padh liye hote”
