I am an IITian and have a large number of schoolmates and colleagues who are from BITS Pilani. As I have a much broad knowledge of IIT from inside, I can point out the issues which IITs should learn from BITS.
- About reservation. BITS has been successfully running for a long period of time without reservation. Its high time IIT Senate identifies this point and takes corrective measures. I am not against helping underprivileged students, but as IIT Guwahati has a preparatory course/year for students from reservation who were not upto the mark with the general students, other IITs should also take similar initiatives. This saves the credibility of the brand.
- Attendance issue. Half of the IITians are frustrated because of a ghost called attendance. BITs doesn’t care if students come to class. If you look at this like this: You have a handful of students who have proved that they think completely different than the general population and are able to solve the crudest problems in most trivial manner. Basically, they are mavericks of their generation.
