I am a 3rd year student at IIT Bombay. Recently I was involved in my department elections for which I talked to a lot of PhD students in order to know their grievances with respect to any problems in Academic and non academic areas. This was what I found…..
- Everyone agrees it’s bad. Basically don’t expect BTech companies to take you as PhD guys have very specific knowledge which is generally not that useful to companies.
- There is no body that deals with bringing companies specific to PhD needs and this is evident by the results.
- Senior PhD guys told me that after ending PhD , people are just sitting at home looking for jobs. It’s really desperation.
- Basically, there are 2 directions most PhD can go……Professorship in a University or specified job. For the field specific job, your facad have to use his contact in companies. This varies from professor to professor as some have, some don’t. Similarly in the case of Universities you need your facad contacts.
