The difference between them is just like between cashew cookies and butter cookies….. Students of both branch can sit for placement of same companies (IT Students get to sit maybe 98% companies but the 2% companies are the one where you didn’t even wanted to go so it doesn’t even matter)…. 90% of the syllabus is same…
So it doesn’t matter whether you take IT or CSE, as companies don’t differentiate…

There is no fixed difference between CSE and IT. Both are considered same everywhere.
Some places like IIIT allahabad despite being a top Institute doesn’t have cse but has only IT.
While some nit like kurukshetra has cse and IT both and I compares before counseling syllabus of both branch literally same except 2–3 subjects which are offered as elective to one and compulsory for one and vice versa
