- VIT is situated in Vellore which is dominated by Tamilians. The first language is Tamil followed by English and then Hindi. Language is a great barrier when it comes to communicating with the locals working in VIT as librarians, cleaners, gardeners, few hostel wardens etc. Tamil students are able to make a good bond with these people which makes their life very easy in hostel as well as outside.
- Most of the professors are Tamil as well. They have a soft corner for south Indians but that does not apply to every Tamil professor.
- South Indians especially Tamilians and Kannadiga’s occupy good positions in most of the clubs as well as organizing committees of VIT’s technical and cultural fests.
- When you move out of VIT, it is very difficult to converse with the local populace. They understand Tamil ONLY with very basic proficiency in English. Even their pronunciation of English is very different from how North Indians speak english.
- The hostel rules are very strict. There is in time for all hostelers after which you are not allowed to enter inside. You will be marked absent for that day and consecutive absenteeism results in payment of fines. Also, they call your parents if you remain absent for a day without any notice.
