Test. Analysis. Note. Repeat.
Whenever you are done with the syllabus once, start writing tests. These tests should be on the pattern of the exam you are targetting.
After finishing the test, you MUST analyze it. Compare with standard solutions. Check each and every question. For board exam, check each and every step. See if you got an answer correct, did you get it right for the right reasons or was it just a fluke. Analysis is must. That is where the maximum learning happens.
Whatever new you learn during analysis, make a note of it. Revise these things before taking the next test.
This method has been working for me personally and for my students for last many years. I cleared IIT JEE in 2005, using this approach. I scored 99.67 percentile in CAT 2012, again using the same approach.
I have been securing admissions for my students in various colleges like IIM Indore and Rohtak, Shaheed Sukhdev, NMIMS, Christ Bangalore, Symbiosis and many others, using this same approach.
