I think I can give a better answer to this question.
I’m a final year CS undergrad at NIT Surat. I’m going to answer this question based on my experience with various CS students I’ve encountered.
Note : Figures mentioned are not exact. There can be some exceptions.
Research (MS (MTech ) + PhD) : Those who are interested to study the extensions of concepts learnt in bachelors would probably do masters in either IITs or foreign universities. They prepare for GATE (for IITs) or GRE, TOEFL, IELTS (for foreign universities) in their final or pre- final year. After that, they pursue PhD where they continue their research.
YEARS OF STUDY :
2 years to complete MS and greater than 4 years to complete PhD
JOB :
Academia – As professor in reputed universities around the world.
Average Starting Salary in IIT : ₹ 10–12 lpa with other benefits.
Average Starting Salary in reputed foreign universities : $100,000 per annum (₹70lpa)
