This year the campus placement at all the NIFT centers has experienced a drastic and considerable drop compared to the previous years. Top centers like Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Hyderabad also have encountered huge dip in the placements. Following are the overall placement stats of this year at some of the centers irrespective of the departments, Delhi- 37%, Bangalore- 38%, and Kolkata- 50%. These stats are quoted by the Union Textiles Minister Mrs. Smriti Irani in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on last Friday. In the Hyderabad campus the scenario was the same as well although no official report has till now been published. But the percentage here also was less than 50 as I saw how many companies came and talked to the seniors about the placement. For the fashion technology department only 3 companies visited the campus with a very limited vacancy and less salary offering of about 25K per month. All the 3 companies offered an average CTC of around 3-3.5 LPA which was quite less considering the high cost of living in the metro cities. The students who did well in their final internships were offered job or PPO from their respective companies but salary was not that good, around 27-30k in hand. And the number of these students was about 4-5 out of batch of 23 students. This I am talking particularly for Hyderabad campus and fashion technology department. The same sought of scene was there in NIFT Bangalore for DFT. Very limited offers came and the salary offered was around 25k only. Around 60% of students did not sit for the placements so the stat for DFT placements was very less ther
