I learnt Life Skills during my time in BITS.
- Planning and Time Management: The first lesson that any student who is admitted to BITS learns is to plan their day within the boundary conditions given by the Student Welfare Division (SWD) or ARCD (now renamed as Academic Under Graduate Studies Division (AUGSD)). Every student makes his/her timetable all on their own.
- Relationship Management – At least 2 decades ago, when the affordability of travel was not as it is today, living in a hostel miles away from home for 4.5 months at a stretch and not too affordable and instantaneous communication option to reach people at home, you learn to forge stronger and trusting relationships with people on-campus – peers, seniors, juniors, day scholars, professors, helpers/lifesavers/locals (Mess Bhaiyaas, Institute cafeteria staff, workshop staff, administrative staff, wardens, restaurant owners within and outskirts of campus, Redi owners) and many more. The bonds formed here are for life and the alumni experience is endearing and enriching.
- Strong Interpersonal Communication Skills: The reasons listed in the above point and the various clubs and departments that come together to organise iconic student-led events like BOSM, OASIS, APOGEE, Interface among many others develops great interpersonal communication skills as organising such events need funds generation/sponsorship, invitations for participation sent to various colleges all over India, handling registrations, planning for accommodations & events for participating students, inviting prominent guest speakers… I hope you get the picture. All these are student-led.
