“CS certifications”, I’ve never heard the term? I have heard of certifications in programming, networking, hardware repair, administration, project management, etc, but never CS. Computer Science is an extremely broad subject and is a branch of applied mathematics. I wouldn’t expect anything outside of a degree to encapsulate everything you learn in a good Computer Science Undergrad/Graduate program.
However, it seems like i’m picking apart your question more than answering it. I’m going to assume you mean programming certs based on the fact you want to be a software engineer. In those terms I have never heard of one holding any real weight in the industry, and can even be taken as a negative sign. You see, all the proof you need to be a software engineer is to build software, that’s it. With websites like GitHub and Bitbucket it’s super easy to build a piece of software and just show it off to your employer. Why do you need a piece of paper when you have a working application? So instead of worrying about these Certs and Nano-Degrees you keep seeing advertised just focusing on making something. Build a Android/IOS app, make a website, make a game, do whatever you feel like doing. If it’s none trivial, solves a problem, and was built by you it will do wonders for your job search.
