You know it is a strange thing in case of BITS Pilani where there is only one list for the good and the bad things and it comes down to you what you want to take from it.
Not in order.
Single Rooms
The Good
· I have lived in a shared room for one full year, and no matter how great your room-mate is, a single room is a single room, hands down. Little things matter, when you want the light on or off, when do you want to clean your room, when you want your speaker on blast mode, etc. The list goes on.
The Bad
· If you are one of those guys who has trouble making friends, you are sorted, your roommates’ friends are now your friends!
· Plus his things are now your things. Missing a comb, toothpaste, no worries at all! Suddenly having a roommate becomes a boon in disguise.
· It is nice to have someone to talk to when you are feeling low, there are friends, but sometimes when you are away from your home and feeling lonely (trust me it happens more often than you imagine) it is nice to have someone.
· People don’t come out of their rooms, games, TV series, movies and what not.
Dual Degree Programme
The Good
· You get to study pure science or economics in of the best institutions of this country without having to worry about placements. This is hands-down the best advantage. I have friends who have the zeal for research but their parents wouldn’t let them take that course in other institutions because to them the future seems bleak for research (quite understandably), but here it is a win-win for the both the parent and the child. You are awarded two degrees one for you, one for your parent (wink wink).
· You get to choose what stream of engineering you want to pursue. The first year courses are same for everyone and include a little bit of every stream. Plus you talk to seniors, you perform experiments, you talk to professors and well, you get a rough idea of what you want.
· You get to have the coveted C.S. branch for 1/10th the effort you would have to put in you +2. Period.
