Am not bothering to mention Google. If you don’t know that they are the best, well let’s not continue the discussion 😛
NetApp is one of the lesser known (amongst Indian engineering students) companies that you would certainly love to work for if you have a particular kind of mindset. NetApp India ranked #11 in the Great Places to Work For this year, and #6 amongst the IT companies.
It has a very strong culture of trust – even interns are given access to code base, research, and root access on dev servers. No matter how junior you are, you are expected to speak up, defend your ideas, and question your senior’s ideas. I have personally seen an intern grill one of the VPs (second in command after the CEO) on NetApp’s strategies in the cloud domain. He actually bothered logically defending NetApp’s strategy, and was not offended.
But this doesn’t mean you start being cocky. People who can not handle a huge degree of freedom would not thrive in NetApp. For people who enjoy an open workplace, where your senior management actually pays a visit to your cube to talk to you, NetApp is a dream place to be! But for people who prefer a strict hierarchy, where there is a clear division between ‘my work’ and ‘someone else’s work’ and require very specific briefs, NetApp can be a nightmare.
