Definitely!
In 2009, my score was 5 marks short of the final cut-off at BITS- Hyderabad. 5 marks. That night I cried, watched Kung Fu Panda and decided to give BITSAT again the following year. As weeks passed, I had a chance to attend the dual degree program at NMIMS and a shot at a Civil degree from NIT- Calicut. It didn’t change my mind and I’m now a proud BITS alumni.
And so, shamelessly promoting my college, I urge you to try for any of the campuses in Pilani, Hyderabad and Goa.
BITS is on par with the old IITS as far as placements and student opportunities are concerned. So you will get your money’s worth and more. Other perks include:
- Lots of diversity. And brains. You could wind up in any of the 3, though Pilani is usually chosen by the toppers. But wherever you are, you’ll find yourself amid very smart folks who represent every state and income group of India. Whether we use our brains post BITSAT is another matter.
- Electives Like movies? There’s a course where all you do is talk about aspects of film – making , watch movies and write about them in the exam. Like to talk? Take Public Speaking and literally talk your way into an A.
- Single rooms Pilani I believe has sharing rooms but only for a year, but Goa and Hyderabad house students in single rooms in separate hostels for girls and boys.
- DC. The holiness that is DC. It’s got books, movies, music, course materials and lots of shady stuff you’ll want when you do show up.
- Fests. 3 days and nights of parties and fun. 3 times a year. Spree, Quark and Waves (talking about Goa campus. Hyd and Pilani also have 3 each too). Also, we get free invites to any major event that happens within our semester timing. Ever seen David Guetta perform? Live? For free? I haven’t either but there are folks who went for it and love to tell the tale.
