Should I prepare for USMLE or Indian PG?

  • 0

I am getting so many requests to write about this hot topic running in mind of many medical students. USMLE v/s PG in India.

Like every other career decision, I will advise 1st assessment should start from afterlife. What will be your life after 10/20/40 years if you go to USA or live in India.

It includes all financial, personal and social aspects. Like I can’t leave my parents. They can’t settle in USA. So USMLE is out of consideration for me. Or in different scenario, I love Indian culture more than USA. But I won’t get as much opportunities here on my interest like research. But I choose family over career! Think of all aspects for yourself and decide.

If you think life there will suit you more or both are equal, then next thing is about your own interests and expectations.

If you are interested in research, if you want to explore medical science more, USA have better opportunities than India. If you are interested in working with latest technology, prefer lesser workload (over working as much as you can), more interested in diagnostic branch and simple peaceful life, USA may provide better opportunities.

If you are interested in surgical branches, want to save many lives, wanna have very good experience (compare patient load), have desire that your presence could make huge difference in patient’s life, India will provide better opportunity than USA.
