It’ll not be wise to say one is better in a straightforward way.

But most of the ranking frameworks put VIT above NIT Silchar, the main reasons to this are:

  • Quality & number of sponsored projects undertaken & completed by VIT faculty members are superior than that of NIT Silchar faculty memebers.
  • No. of Publications in Journals, Conferences by faculty members & students are far more in case of VIT.
  • The perception about VIT students in reputed Grad Schools is very good. VIT Grad.s are found in in large numbers that too in some of the finest schools, which is not the case for NIT Silchar.

Placements: NIT Silchar has decent placements. PSUs also visit the campus. I have no idea about placements in VIT.

Downside of VIT is the very high tuition fees.

We generally rank an institute by seeing the toughness to get into. But we should also see how students are transformed in 4 years by the institute, no matter how much talented they were at the time of entering the institute.

Hope this helps.
