THE GOOD-
1. I believe that In VIT if you are from Core CSE/IT then you have a lot of opportunities as more than 300 companies visit the campus for placements and for the placement point of view I would advise one to choose the Vellore campus. An average student can bag a package from 4–6 lakhs and people who are pretty good can try them a chance on companies with packages 10 LPA and above. Selection Process is rigorous you need to be extremely you really need to hone your skillset to get in these top companies. You need to a fucking good ‘CODER’ to get into these firms as they have 2–3 coding rounds and then 1–2 technical interview rounds+HR.

These companies offer a package of 21 LPA + and select a maximum of 3–6 students and with just 1/2 FTE and others as interns who have to work hard to convert as FTE. One honest advice is to make sure you are very good at programming skills as well as aptitude skills.
2. The friends you meet and the bonds you make, the all-nighters during CATS and Tem-Ends, the innumerable Pondy trips you make and a lot more which I will not write here but its a great journey and these memories and a few friends out of those hundreds you made on the Freshers day will last for a lifetime.VIT has some of the shitiest rules and you would hate it but I do not regret my decision of joining VIT and I hope you too won’t.
3. You have plans for masters this college has a pretty good reputation worldwide so it will boost your profile when you apply abroad. Our professors are highly reputed even if they possess the knowledge so there LOR does work.
4. VIT has a really beautiful campus which is also really safe too unlike some of the campuses which aren’t that safe to stay. Guards are always there for you(to catch you red-handed XP) but the college will make sure all their students are safe!!
THE BAD
1)IN TIME
Every time you go for an outing during weekends you need to apply for an outing online and have to get it approved from the warden and on weekdays you can go out without applying any outing. There is an in time which they are really strict about and if you run late they take a fine from you which is around 100 bucks. (I do remember paying the fine even when I was a minute late so yes be careful or shed in 100 bucks every time).
2)NO CAKES ALLOWED IN THE HOSTELS
They check your bags not just for alcohol or drugs but for cakes!! Yes, you heard it right, “as no birthday parties allowed in hostel ma”.You can always try to sneak in though.

4.COUPLES/RELATIONSHIP
YES, only handshakes allowed and this is a fact.
Guys aren’t allowed near the girl’s hostel areas and they tell you to go back from Technology Tower and DC. Moreover, be really careful when you are inside the campus as the guards are always on rounds and if they ever catch you doing things they find ‘OBSCENE’, they immediately issue a RED SLIP and inform your parents making it really embarrassing for you and your family.
Sometimes even if you are outside the campus guards follow you to catch you and earn that commission they get from VIT and they really do stalk you at times.
5.WOMEN DRESSING
They are really very strict about what girls wear and you will realize this the moment you step in the campus. So girls joining VIT this year do pack some shrugs to cover up all the tank tops and crop tops you wish to wear.
6.SMOKING AND DRINKING
There are no smoke detectors in any of the hostels and most of the people go to the washroom and do the needful as wardens hardly come on rounds. And then we have those brave souls too who smoke in rooms but it is pretty risky. If you get caught you need to pay a good amount of money as the fine and your parents are informed so be careful about that.
7.BOOKING ROOMS IN HOTELS IN VELLORE
Don’t even try to do that as the hotels will inform VIT about this and you’re so dead as they get your details when you give your ID Proofs and they immediately call up VIT if you are a student there. The matter escalates quickly and it gets uglier and embarrassing as your parents are informed about this immediately. If someone else is booking a room for you(not your parents) then be extremely careful and make sure you don’t give your ID Proof to them as they do not ask it sometimes for the guest and if they do RUN
8.DRINKING
MY STORY-We were a group of 12 and we went to a quarry nearby and traveled in an auto, actually 2 autos which we took from VIT main gate and this was our biggest mistake we made. Once we reached the destination we were chilling and a few started drinking peacefully as this was a secluded place which we thought guard weren’t aware of. Within 10 minutes the VIT Security Squad reached our spot and caught all of us and we all had to give our blood test and the ones who had positive test results were suspended for a semester. I share this to tell you guys that do not believe the auto guys or any outsider as what the auto guy did in our case was to inform VIT that we had alcohol and obviously as he dropped us to the spot he knew where exactly could they catch us red-handed. So, guys, this is no joke you need to be damn careful with some things in VIT and that is the “NO DRINKING” rule.
At the end of the day it’s all about how you make this undergrad experience for yourself and there always a stroke of luck so wishing you guys good luck
