It will cost you 20+ lakhs for five years in UPES. This is including the college fees, and the accomodation fees. Accomodation is expensive in Dehradun. The placements are pathetic, and most of the fees they charge is also ridiculous. (Everything from the cost of backlogs(4.5k per paper) to the cost of their tie, which is of average quality, but costs around 450,last time I checked.)
They don’t arrange internships in the initial years, all the seminars and competitions and all are a huge hoax. They name it international with one international participant, who will chair one session. I’ve been the organiser of these ‘ international’ seminars so I know how these things work. Calculating the cost benefit ratio, it’s not worth doing law from UPES. They have a number of committees and clubs, but it’s all for PR. The moment you step into the college, you understand how much they care about PR.(I’m a final year law student, with 9 CGPA if that means anything to you).
The classes and schedule are ridiculous too, there was a whole semester when we had to attend from 8:30–5:30, (that too, with no lunch break ) they also scheduled classes on sundays that semester. The timetable is a cruel joke, and the worst thing is that if we complain about it, they make it more tough. In general, UPES don’t tolerate any sort of complaints or enquiries from the students, I know one senior of mine who filed a RTI regarding the fees, and she had a Disciplinary hearing with the whole Disciplinary Committee ( which is another joke, I’ve been a member for years). The worst thing about UPES is that if we have a complaint or any such issue that needs to be sorted, we have no clue whom to contact.
