Hello ! I’ll give a very frank answer. I have studied Mechanical from MIT, Manipal but I do have a lot of good friends in CSE.
Faculty are not good except maybe 3–4 and you’d find classes quite boring because trust me no matter how interested you are in a subject, the classroom atmosphere depends on the faculty teaching that subject.
But here’s the up-side. Placements for CSE are more than decent. Almost 60% companies visiting the campus take mainly Computer Science students and many offer pretty good (read seven digit) packages. Giants like Microsoft, Oracle and Amazon visit every year and hire a decent number of MITians.
Apart from these there are numerous opportunities to participate in Hackathons and other competitions. There are many workshops organized by IE-CSE (Computer Science Club of MIT, Manipal) you can participate and enhance your skills. And from what I hear the labs for CSE department (and all other departments as such) are well equipped. So overall you’ll have a good exposure.
Moreover MIT, Manipal is an institute with vast diversity and great people. Your college life will be worth it.
The main campus of MIT is situated in MANIPAL (yes). It’s a small university town in Karnataka about 10 minutes from Udupi. There are about 25 institutes here and you’ll meet people from different walks of life.
