No, Manipal Institute of Technology is legit, and a top private engineering college in India. It has alumni who are CEOs at Microsoft and Nokia. In fact, I would go as far as to say it is in fact much better than money-minded colleges like VIT/SRM who take money to give admission, while the only way to get into Manipal is by acing the MU-OET, and not by management quota. MIT is a college that has come very far in the last decade or so and is striving to reach the heights of BITS. I would ask you not to heed such rumours.
