Yes, it is very overrated. I know anonymous answers are not credible to many but there always are reasons for actions.

The Academics – There is nothing that will make you feel enriched or wow, the pedagogy is pathetic, teachers couldn’t care less, any serious Student with an ambition will never go to the college.
The Crowd – There are three types of people here, one, who don’t care, two, who actually care, three, who are all pomp and show. The third category is high in DU, then the first. Sadly, second category is super rare.
People here are not present to study but to have fun. 60%+ have no ambition in life and only go around running to Hudson Lane or Kamla Nagar or what not. No one thinks of doing something extra ordinary, their thoughts are limited to MBA.
Most of the answers here say – Celebrities, Fests and what not, the f*** do these matter in an institution of excellence in India? How will SRKs presence fill the major Gap in Academics!?
I am sincerely telling you this, do not, I repeat DO NOT think that DU is a good place, it might kill your ambitions with ‘fun’ and you will not even know it. Join a place which challenges you, which makes going to college fun because you learn something new, not because you have some stupid Hindi Society DJ night. These have important places in college life, I agree, but Academics are supposed to a priority.
University of Delhi is one of the worst places for academic development.
