Is BITS-Pilani overrated?

  • 0

I finished my ME (CSE) from Bits Pilani in 2011. And here is my answer.

If you are looking forward to just job/placements, BITS will train you to a level that work in industry will appear childish to you. You will be surprised just how easy most of the work in so called IT industry is and how it only degrades you over time(you forget most of what you knew if you didn’t refresh your knowledge intentionally).

But if you are looking forward to real research, BITS Pilani is most likely to disappoint you to your core. Most of the faculty is not specialized into anything exceptional and are absolutely not interested in problems outside their domains.

If I share two-three experiences,
1. A student approached a teacher to study Swarm Intelligence. Teacher asked him “ Have you spoken to other teachers?”.
student: Yes, they turned me down.
Teacher: If they rejected you, why shall I accept you. You can go.”

This happened in front of me as I was doing project under him. The student left and I felt sorry for him because he wasn’t asked right questions. He wasn’t asked what have you read about it or how far you intend to go !!
