Hey! I am a 4th year student in VIT who has been through the placements procedure in VIT. Your CGPA isn’t bad, it’s decent. But I would advise you to increase it as much as you can. If possible make it 8.5. Because there will be a number of Super Dream companies you won’t be able to sit for. This is because VIT has a huge number of students and the only way to restrict a number of students that can sit for a particular company is by CGPA.
Also, this time we had students with 8.5+ CGPA coming early and they were only eligible for companies like: Microsoft, PayPal, Deshaw, Morgan Stanley. Even core companies for ECE like Cisco keeps a cut off of 8.5 CGPA. These are just a small number of companies as compared to the number of super dream companies that come in VIT.
Lastly, I don’t mean to scare you. There a huge number of super dream companies that keep a cut off of 7 CGPA. You always have a chance of sitting for them and getting placed there. And in VIT the systems keep changing. Some companies that had kept a 9 CGPA cut off last year kept a 8.5 one this year.
All in all, since you have a year it won’t be harmful if you increased your CGPA as much as you can. And while you’re at it start practicing coding on online platforms like hackerrank. Revise your basic concepts DSA, DBMS, OS and Networks. And brush up your aptitude skills( aptitude can be taken care of if you pay attention in the soft skills class that VIT keeps for students)
