I also had CSE @LNMIIT, CSE @NIRMA, CSE @ VIT,Vellore. So, I will tell you what I considered while deciding in favour of LNMIIT.
1.) Faculty- When I joined back in 2012, LNMIIT had pretty decent faculty in the CSE depat. Since then there’s been a slight dip at that end but still it is pretty decent relative to all these colleges. Most faculties are Phds. from IITs and other premiere NITs and even foreign univs.
2.) Academics- LNMIIT has a very comprehensive curriculum for its B.Tech program. It is at par with CS curriculum at any other IIT or IIITs. The electives offered are very varied and there’s a lot of flexibility. You’ll get a chance to undertake some very unique HSS electives(that are not offered even in IITs)- like Public Policy in India Planning & Analysis, Contemporary Fiction in Indian Sub-Continent, Film Adaptation of literary texts, Literature and Values, Modernism-Literary Representations, Managerial Economics, Challenges to Indian Economy, Business and Soft Skills, Business & Technical Communication, Critical Thinking & Ethics, Digital Marketing & E-commerce, and several others.
The program electives are equally varied- Data Mining, Cloud Computing, Big Data Analytics, Advanced Data Structures, Machine Learning, Information Retrieval & Web Search, Genetic Algos., and many more.
The science and open electives are quite diversified too- Number Theory, Space Science & Tech., Computer Vision, Optics & Lasers, Bio-medical engineering, Operations Research, Classical Mechanics & Field Theory, etc.
The whole point of mentioning these course names is to merely spur your interest and indicate to you about the comprehensiveness of the curriculum and not to intimidate you.
LNMIIT has provisions for semester exchange at IITs, NTU Singapore, CERN labs, etc. Students go for semester long internship at Amazon, Xerox, Microsoft, etc.
LNMIIT has recently signed MOUs with IBM, HCL and Microsoft. They are also offering latest courses in joint participation with the LNMIIT faculty.
Talking of CSE specifically, LNMIIT has an active Computer Science club called ‘Cybros’- they organise monthly programming contests, classes for students, hackathons, etc. Then there’s GDG, CSI chapter, Microsoft student partnership programs, and several others.
The programming culture is steadily improving and it exists for those who seek it. Things like Google summer of Code, ACM-ICPC, are not exotic in LNMIIT. The students here, are very familiar with them and they are working hard, such that the former are also getting familiar with us.
