I am an information science engineering student in Bangalore, India. What subjects should I focus on? How should I go about learning them if I want to get a good on-campus placement offer?

My answer will be based on the assumption that you’re in your first or second year engineering. I studied ISE and the biggest regret i now have as a graduate is that i did not give enough time towards reading and staying in touch with the latest technology. Considering you want to stay in the IT field post engineering i have a few tips for you which could help you a little.

1. Spend lots and lots of time with your laptop/computer. By this i don’t mean binge watch shows. Read blogs, follow IT influencers via blogs and twitter. Learn to backtrack when you read (For example when you read an article about a tech that you have no clue about, backtrack the keywords and read more about them).
2. Try and maintain a healthy percentage. Although the engineering subjects don’t help you much, they do give you a good amount of basic knowledge and more importantly if campus placement is on your mind you need to have a good percentage just enough to clear all the cut offs.
3. Try and learn a few programming languages and more importantly don’t just learn them theoretically but also work on them hands on.
4. I know this can be hard, i hardly did any projects, try and implement a few mini projects.
