5.5 Years of MBBS
3 years of residency for MD/MS/DNB
3 years of residency for DM/MCh
Total = 11.5 Years.
This is the best-case scenario if you take the Conventional Way. But there can be some breaks in between. There are usually 1-year gaps between successive residencies, so the total years can rise up to 13.5.
But the hustle is not over yet. The medical science is advancing so fast that by the time you reach the position of a superspecialist, there are already so many advanced medical procedures and technologies out in the world that in order to keep up you will further have to do a 2-year residency in a tertiary care private hospital after your super-specialty to earn the FNB degree (Fellowship in National Board) awarded by NBE.
