General overview:
– BITS, Pilani – Pilani campus has 12 boys’ hostels with generally around 230 rooms each (most of them are single rooms and rest are double). They are known as Bhawans. Just in case you are interested to know, they are called Ram Bhawan, Budh Bhawan, Krishna Bhawan, Gandhi Bhawan, Shankar Bhawan, Vyas Bhawan, Vishwakarma Bhawan, Bhagirath Bhawan, Rana Pratap Bhawan, Ashok Bhawan, Malviya Bhawan and Malviya extension. Lately, a new boys’ hostel has also been set up for the research scholars.
– Each Bhawan has its own Resident Warden. There are also Hostel Superintendents who have 3 – 4 hostels each under them.
– There is one girls’ hostel complex also, called as the Meera Bhawan Complex with a couple of Wardens.
– Talking of the boys’ hostels, almost 80% of the first year students are allotted double rooms and the rest 20% are given single rooms. This allotment of Bhawans and rooms is completely random, irrespective of disciplines.
– However, second year onwards, the students are exclusively allotted single rooms only. The Bhawans are now allotted based on your discipline. You would even have the option of forming a wing with your friends. So, your room (and probably Bhawan also) would change every year.
