I don’t know how the rules are now but while I was in SRM Hostel, the hostel attendance was at 7.30 PM. So you are free to go wherever you want to, but return by 7.30. But there are exceptions. I was attending CAT classes, So I was exempted for the attendance since the classes go on until late. Also, when you are working upon some project, or attending or organizing any event you are exempted. You can just go and report to her whenever you are back.
Also, if you went out and got late, then just give the warden a call and make up some excuse. They generally get along well.
I would suggest, stay in the hostel for the first year and then after you find some good friends, move out and rent an apartment together. You will save a lot of money, considering that the hostel fees is high, also you will be on your own free will.
