The reason most of the engineering students end up in UIET is because of their path being changed from going to sector 12-PEC to sector 25-UIET..I am a CSE student currently in third year of UIET and this is my story too.. I had a very good rank of around 19K but not good enough to reserve a seat in PEC in branches of my choice (CSE or Electronics). I was completely unaware of the college n no close senior to tell about it too. So i am just gonna come out straight and let you figure out for yourself.
UIET is a decent college with really old n typical government infrastructure. But don’t worry about it much as it comes under Panjab University which is really well built. You are alloted hostels based on your rank n you might get a feeling that you got lucky that you got Hostels in the south campus near UIET but to be honest the night life is dead here so i would suggest you to be obliged to get Hostel no 1,2,3,6,7 for boys and 1,2,3 for girls as they are in the main PU campus. You are going to enjoy your Hostel life if not your college life for sure and dont worry about the rule that says Hostel gates will be closed after 11 for boys.. Its open 24*7!
Now lets talk about the college itself. Well if you are from CSE or IT branch than you can relax a bit as you will eventually get placed somewhere(but don’t keep your hopes high for some great company with package exceeding 15 lacs!). Infosys is the mass recruiter which would take around 150+ students(half of which will be thrown out in training exams!). But for other branches specially Mechanical i would strongly suggest you to reconsider coming to UIET. Very few placement opportunities are there and unlike the teachers of CSE and IT they aren’t that serious about their work too.. The workshops consists of outdated materials n most of the class realize this fact and start preparing for GATE anyway. To my and your surprise we dont even have CIVIL branch here in UIET.
