To begin, there is one ground rule, irrespective of your PR No:
“You don’t choose an elective, the elective chooses you. “
Choosing an elective is the fun part of your timetable building. This is one of the ways in which insti gives you the much talked about ‘academic flexibility’.
In the next few sentences, I have shared what electives mean, general guidelines for choosing electives and the basic jargon. I have concluded with a brief explanation of SOPs.
The basics: There are 3 kinds of electives:
- Humanities (famous courses like PAVA, Gita, Globalisation here),
- Discipline (e.g. Data Mining, Machine Learning for CS) and
- Open Electives (can include electives offered as Discipline, Humanities, Management – anything that you have fulfilled prerequisites to)
