Campus placements are the most exciting yet unnerving part of college. There is no one sure-shot way of preparing for college placements. Depending on the company, their criteria may vary but there are certain things you can do which will make the process easier –
1. Talk to your seniors – This goes without saying, always talk to your seniors. Ask them their experiences, where they think they performed well, where they think they messed up. They can tell you a lot about certain companies and what they look for in a candidate. Their experience can be a great resource for you.
2. Prepare your resume carefully – Your resume is akin to your first impression. Before companies see you, they see your resume. Make sure you have an impeccable resume ready before the placement process starts. Start building your resume at least 3 months before so you have ample time to perfect it.
3. Have a plan – Yes, you can wing it but college placements are not like college presentations. You need to have an idea about what your strengths are, what kind of roles are you applying for, what are the requirements and how are you going to fulfill them. Communication skills, aptitude/technical skills are required almost everywhere, ensure that you develop them well.
4. Prepare for aptitude tests – There are various resources – online and offline available for you to test your aptitude. Utilize them to your advantage. Prepare for these tests in advance so you can focus on other matters at the time of placement.
5. Prepare for the interview – Participate in mock interviews, practice with your seniors and friends and get their feedback. It will help you correct your tone, body language, and attitude during the interview.
6. Participate in college activities – These activities can earn you a lot of points. If you have experience organizing a fest or raising funds for an event, these will help you display your leadership qualities.
7. Do internships that matter – Having relevant work experience is always a cherry on the top. Choose what internships you are doing carefully, once they go on your resume, a lot can depend on them.
Have a rewarding placement session this year!
