Negative marking is a very very important enemy that you have to beat if you want to crack the exam. It can bring out huge differences in your rank.
Being a dropper this was one of my problems during my preparation and after failing to crack NEET in 1st attempt, I understood how dangerous this negative marking is.
Most of the time negative marking occurs in the biology section. People get overconfident with biology and think this can’t be wrong. Physics and chemistry are conceptual mostly and so chances of negative markings are less, if you practice well.
Some points that I followed to reduce negative markings are :
- Practice lots of questions of each subject. The more you practice, the more clearly you understand what the examiner is asking and the better you become at marking the right answer.
- No matter how much preparation you have done, I will suggest you not to be over confident.
- Don’t rush while attempting the question. Read the questions once completely and then begin to answer it
- Be focused, while you are solving one question don’t think about any other question that you have left or want to attempt later. Meditation can help a lot.
- Practice question or give mock tests in real NEET like environment, take these seriously and try to complete within time, without wasting time and pausing the mock tests in between, if you attempt them online.
- Always and always analyse your mistakes. Conceptual and factual mistakes contribute largely to negative marking. So analyzing them will reduce negative marking to a large extent.
- Keep a relaxed and calm mind while attempting question, if your mind wanders here and there , then surely you are going to mark the wrong answers. Don’t be tensed, be relaxed while you attempt the paper.
- Lastly, while filling bubbles in the omr, please check the question and omr number once. Many times people marks the right answer but not of the right questions. Sometimes people skip a question in omr and then keep marking wrong options for every question. Please avoid these.
