How are the batches divided in the first year in Manipal (MIT)?

There are about 20-25 batches for the first years which are divided into two different cycles ( Physics Cycle And Chemistry Cycle). Each cycle lasts one whole semester, there being two semesters in the first year where one undergoes both cycles according to which he/she is placed. Each cycle has a set of branches assigned by the Institute as they wish. For example, Physics cycle has about 12-13 batches with each batch having students from a set of branches.
