If you are a BITSian, you shall know that placements are distributed over two semesters. If you are not, let me tell you that at BITS Pilani (all three campuses), placements happen in both the semesters. By the end of your third year, you have to make a choice about which semester you prefer for placements. Your CGPA and your preference is then factored and you are allotted the semester in which you shall be eligible to sit for placements. Students with CGPA > 8 normally prefer first semester (and get it). Students with CGPA > 6 and CGPA < 8 want first semster (but don’t get it).
(Fun fact: Students with CGPA about 5 or 5.5 are forced to sit in the first semester and eventually, some of them end up getting great job offers)
So, with regards to EEE, first semester placements are quite good. You have companies like Intel, Qualcomm, Broadcom, SanDisk, Nvidia, Cisco etc. showing up on campus. There are about 15-20 core companies that visit on campus in the first semester for placements. Things were a bit different in the first semester 2013-14 placements. There were good companies on campus but quite distributed over the semester. So, most students, even with good CGPA got placed quite late. But, in the end there were about 10-12 good companies on campus (lesser than normal). But to sum up, first semester provides you with quite a number of opportunities to get placed in core companies (and with good, decent packages).
