Let me get this straight, yes students do opt to study further. Not just restricted to United States by geography but also the EU, UK, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia. I totally disagree with Siddharth’s answer to this question, masters is never a back up to campus recruitment. It’s very different ball game.
The reason people give the GRE and study masters is to gain advanced knowledge in their field of study and pursue their interests. Most of the students who wish to do their masters decide by the end of second year and start working towards their university of choice. And apply in their fourth year to them, yes some may sit for campus placement along with applications parallelly but the choice is never based on the package they get, the two are mutually exclusive. If a person gets a job profile that suits his career interests that person may want to explore working and then apply later on, for many people I have had conversations with a Masters abroad is out of the question due to many factors, mainly finances some want to pursue an MBA from top institutions in India itself, hence it varies
