I’m gonna account the stories of two of my friends here and will let you decide for yourself.
Friend 1: Screwed up all the entrance exams after 12th standard, was depressed for a while. Decided that he had enough of it and wanted to change. Wanted to take ECE but settled for CSE at the end. Took a loan to fund his education, lived very frugally. Started studying right from day 1. Always maintained a CGPA of 9.8 till now. Took part in many projects , did some research work, got 322 in GRE, and recently got placed in Amazon for 9 lakhs per annum ( which is a pretty awesome package considering the fact that TCS hires the bulk of students and pays 3.4 lakhs per annum.
Friend 2: Landed up in SRM and took ECE just like any other engineering aspirant. He was a dreamer, wanted to become Steve Jobs and start the next Apple. Took inspiration from the fact that Steve Jobs used to try recreational and hallucinogens like weed, LSD etc and decided to try it himself thinking that by doing them, he would gain all of his skills. And before he realised, he had 6 arrears and has become an addict ( thank fully, not to the hard core drugs like cocaine and heroin). Right now, he isn’t eligible to sit for placements, No point of thinking of higher studies either.
Now that you have joined SRM, there isn’t much you can do about it. Utilize the opportunities, resources and most importantly time fruitfully so that you can achieve something while you’re here. Try to build yourself as a person, not just your resume. Self acceptance is extremely important. Analyze your strengths, weaknesses and build upon them. At the end of four years, it really doesn’t matter if you’re from the IITs or BITS as long as you have built yourself properly. Anudeep Nekkanti is the perfect example. Believe in yourself and you can achieve what ever you want to.
