BITS Pilani (all campuses) students get a summer internship after 2nd year called Practice school 1 (PS 1) as a part of the curriculum.
Also, there is also another 6 months internship in the final year (12 months for dual degree students) that all students get, which is called PS 2. For PS 2, (as of 2019) BITS has collaborations with several companies (in India) like Apple, Amazon, Nutanix, Goldman Sachs, Texas Instruments, Adobe, American Express etc. In this internship, students are provided quite good stipends too by the company (ranging from 45000 to 1 lac rupee per month depending on the company).
For PS 2, the situation is quite dynamic and students can also get new companies opened for an internship station.
For those who want to go for higher studies (MS/PhD) and want to gain relevant research experience, there is also a provision for taking a 6 months thesis in the final year instead of practice school.
For doing a thesis, BITSians often get offers from good foreign and Indian universities including MIT, USA (yes, you read it right), UIUC, CMU, INRIA, NTU and NUS Singapore, Harvard, ETH Zurich, EPFL etc. And, in India, old IITs, TIFR Mumbai and IISc Bangalore.
