Well. I’m not going to write what all my fellow BITSians already have.
Let’s just make one thing clear though. Zero attendance is something that not everyone understands. All it says is that even if you haven’t attended a single lecture, you won’t be stopped from giving the exam as opposed to the 75% criterion in IITs. BUT, there is always a but. Some of our professors allot weightage to attendance in the form of marks. Some go on to take surprise quizzes. Some even go beyond that, saying the take home assignments are only for those who attend class that day.
But you know what? The best professor I’ve ever been taught by, doesn’t take attendance. He doesn’t take surprise quizzes. He doesn’t give assignments. And yet, I’m almost always there for his class, without the sword of attendance hanging over my head. If only more teachers concentrated on teaching better instead of trying to figure out how to rob us of our marks, perhaps we’d be learning more and fearing them less.
