Firstly, I have to write this answer anonymously because Christ University has a history of targeting students who speak out openly about the institution’s rather abysmal and appalling state of affairs.
- Much of what is taught at the university is scientifically untenable. Ideology comes into the forefront, and scientific analysis takes a back seat. The rules, regulations, and policies at the institution are not helpful in curating and nurturing creativity. THEY ARE A DRACONIAN, CRUEL AND OPPRESSIVE INSTITUTION (girls and women are especially oppressed and harassed).
- The faculty is absolutely pathetic and ill-informed, by global standards, and even by Indian standards. Students are often much better informed than faculty members and the management, who are living 50 years in the past. They have absolute no clue about how the real world works, and have no knowledge outside of their discipline.
- The teaching is purely theoretical and students gain absolutely no practical and analytical knowledge. The management is only concerned about issues such as attendance and a formal dress code, and does not bother about real learning. The institution purely concentrates on rote learning and mugging up for exams, which shows why the alumni of the institution fare so poorly in the real world, forgetting making it to the top institutions in India or abroad for higher studies (Masters, PhD).
- The institution does not concentrate on any form of research; at the faculty level, nor at the student level. The vast majority of faculty publications are not even cited once! The quality of research is so poor that most of the publications are not even indexed by google scholar, and the few that make it there are never cited!
- The institution has a proven track record of harassment and the individual targeting of students to “set examples”.
- The university passes huge lies about its placement record. The top companies come to higher for the most menial positions, and the average salary package is generally around 20–25k a month. The university website quotes the placement statistic to be in excess of 80%, but as a current student the truth is that more than 90% of the graduating batch does not get placed from the university. And most chose not to sit for placements because the companies, roles and salaries suck!
- Many BA graduates are highered in roles such as “probationary clerks” who get paid around 12–15k a month.
- Faculty members are fired in no time when they have stood up for students in the past. There are numerous cases of such incidents in the past few years. Speak to the students at the institution.
- The university faculty’s high attrition rate speaks volumes about the pathetic state of affairs.
- Anything apart from salwar-kameez for women is considered “shameful” and “provocative”. As if wearing certain clothes causes rape. Men are allowed western clothing, women are not (except the management department and law school). For some reason, its okay if they wear it.
- Remember that you are living in India, and that rankings are bought and sold in this country. Beware!
- Many students do not speak out openly because they fear harassment, and because they do not want to tarnish the image of the institution they are studying at. However, I feel it is my imminent duty as part of this nation’s youth to speak about the situation at this institution.
