Student life at BITS Pilani is based on one keystone-Freedom.
The amount of freedom you are given here is giddying. The 0% attendance policy ensures only truly interested students are found in classrooms. The myriad of clubs allow you to pursue any passion you may have. As you move forward, the number of choices with respect to your academic career will only multiply,if you grasp each opportunity given to you fully. The academic and non-academic freedom combine to allow you to make the most of your student life at BITS Pilani.
But I guess you are interested in knowing a few specifics apart from the usual ‘freedom’ spiel. Well, here you are(in point format like the excellent answer from Aastik Koshta):-
- No ragging-Any ragging brought to the fore is heavily punished. This sometimes leads to seniors not interacting with juniors within their bhavans(this doesn’t deter a majority of senior club leaders in pursuit of fresh talent. So don’t hesitate to talk to anyone.)
- ‘Substances’-There will be some cases of the aforementioned freedom causing the students to partake in banned substances. However, I assure you that the authorities crack down heavily on such individuals and ultimately it comes down to you and your choices.
- College Fests-There are 3 major college fests in Pilani.BOSM-for the sporty guys and gals,OASIS-for the party people and APOGEE-for the tech enthusiasts. OASIS overcomes a major deficit which you will realise when you come to Pilani.
- Pilani-Hell on earth-in terms of weather at least. If it’s summer, you burn. If it’s winter, you freeze. If it’s rainy season they try their best to drown you with clogged roads(lecture halls are islands now-Pilani transformed to Venice minus the charm).
- People-All imaginable sorts.Nothing which I tell you here will be unknown to you. ‘Mini India’ might be a cringey but apt term applicable here. ‘Mini Life’-with reference to your stay here might be a bittersweet but apt term as well.
- Professors-Good-and bad(like any college). You will have to come see this for yourself.
